YDisciple Small Group Discipleship
Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is beginning to utlilize the YDisciple program offered by the Augustine Institute. YDisciple is a great resource for parents to have meaningful conversations with their teenager about faith, moral decision making, and the important things in life. Certainly teenagers will benefit from watching the videos with their parents, having discussion, and praying with each other. After all, the attentive listening, honest sharing, and loving support of parents makes all the difference in the lives of their children. However, parents can multiply their impact by bringing other key influences into the lives of their teens.
We invite you to visualize a powerful formation environment for your teen. He or she has gathered in your home with six of their friends. You welcome them, get to know each of them personally, provide them snacks and drinks, and then give them privacy in some area of your home for their discussion. You are more than willing to give them their space because they are with 2 adult mentors who have been through safe environment training, small group training, and you know and trust them. These mentors also give you assurance that your teen is safe when they meet in other homes, or the parish, or offsite for service projects. After the group meets, you use the YDisciple parent sheet to have meaningful conversation with your teen during the week. Finally, picture your teen thriving because you have provided for them the most powerful, positive influences for healthy adolescent development - parental support, peer support, and mentoring.
